Meridian Water, Enfield - Station Public Realm

From early 2018 we worked as the lead consultant to Volker Fitzpatrick for the design and planning of Meridian Water Station’s public realm and access routes, achieving practical completion in May 2019.

Starting from a high-level brief, we navigated routes between the complex constraints of the Meridian Water construction site, linking the new railway station to surrounding neighbourhoods. In each component of the design we tried to think beyond the singular function of a temporary access route to show how design decisions can always be made to broaden the value of a new place.

The station public realm set a strong precedent for the quality of places and spaced at Meridian Water and demonstrates our commitment to active travel and water sensitive urban design, even for temporary works. The access routes to Meridian Water station are for pedestrians and cycles only, and are flanked by rain gardens, richly planted with a wildflower meadow mix.
